A Bit About Me
My name is Chuck Phillips. I design, build and finish each piece of furniture that leaves C.L. Phillips Fine Furniture.  Focusing on made-to-order furniture of the highest quality for individual clients, I freely borrow forms and designs from any period to create furniture that is both functional and attractive.  I particularly enjoy creating something new by taking the best of early American furniture and incorporating these elements into a piece that will instantly fit into the fabric of your home.

About the Furniture
Traditional techniques and materials are used throughout the conception, design and construction of each piece of furniture that leaves the shop.  Hand cut dovetails are used for drawer fronts and case sides.  Mortise and tenon joinery is used to join legs to rails, whether in a chair, a table or a stand.  Carving and final shaping are done by hand.  Turnings are shaped on the wood lathe by hand.  Bandings and inlays are made in the shop if commercially available products are not of the highest quality.   Solid wood is used throughout every piece of furniture, with the highest quality veneers used as appropriate to the design and function of the piece.

How It's Made
The human hand improves the quality of joinery and imparts a distinctive, hand-made feel to surfaces that will be seen or touched - something that can not be duplicated in commercially made pieces.  Therefore, traditional tools and techniques are used where it matters, machine use is limited to "rough cut" operations that do not affect the quality of the fit or finish.  All surfaces that will be seen or touched are smoothed with hand tools.  Final fitting of all joinery is also done by hand.  Finishes are applied by hand with select pieces being French Polished, a time and energy intensive process that produces a finish unsurpassed in beauty, depth and feel.

The Fine Print
Each piece is designed and built to customer specifications.  Pricing is dependent upon the piece, materials selected, amount of ornamentation and the number of pieces commissioned at any one time.  Payment is generally one-half of the estimated total at acceptance of design, the balance is due at delivery.
